Man found hiding in pensioner's home as she lay dead in kitchen

ARRESTED: Nazeem Ali who was found hiding in the attic of the house

A man has been arrested and is assisting the police with their investigations into the murder of a 61-year-old woman who was found dead on her kitchen floor with marks of violence to her body while he was hiding in a trap door opening inside her home. The woman was earlier heard screaming for murder, help, and for neighbors to call the police moments before there was total silence from her home.

Dead is Sattie Monika Beekharey of 152-154 Atlantic Gardens, a mother of four who mostly resides in Canada. We were told that the woman returned to Guyana earlier this year before elections in order to vote and then stayed on following the coronavirus outbreak. She then began carrying out some works on her home.

The suspect who the police have arrested has been identified as Naeem Ali. This publication was told that the two are very much familiar with each other and shared a very close friendship. It is unclear if the man had anything to do with the woman’s death or what he was doing hiding in her home when the police responded to the distress call and arrived at the crime scene.

In fact, when the police arrived, it took them a while to get the man to come out of the trap door opening after they combed the premises and found him hiding. neighbors had indicated to the police that there was someone in the house and that the person was not seen exiting from the time the woman’s scream subsided to the time they (police) arrived.

Prior to migrating to Canada, Sarttie operated a clothing and jewelry store in Georgetown. One resident from Atlantic Gardens told BIG Smith News Watch they were not surprised that the woman’s screams were heard by persons living close by as she would usually laugh aloud whenever she had friends over and her laughter could be heard from houses away.

A nephew of the woman who spoke with the press at the crime scene said that he has no knowledge of who the suspect detained by the police is and what relationship he shared with his aunt. The nephew also indicated that he had not seen his aunt for approximately three years but received a call today at approximately 15.45 from another relative informing him that his aunt was murdered.

When he arrived at the location, according to him, he was invited into the premises by the police. The nephew said that he observed bloodstain footprints leading to the kitchen and when he got there he noticed his aunt’s lifeless body in the kitchen. He told reporters that the police related to him that the suspect was found hiding in the upper flat.

When this publication arrived at the location today, the residents were out as they spectate the operations of the police in the quiet residential area. The police investigations into the matter are continuing.
