Through the Office of the First Lady, with support from the Ministry of Public Works and incoming oil and gas investor Tidewater Inc., ten young ladies were on Monday, June 30, awarded scholarships as part of the Marine Cadet Course.

First Lady, Her Excellency Arya Ali, and Tidewater’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Quintin Kneen, signed the framework of cooperation at the Baridi Benab at State House in Georgetown, Guyana.

The girls were drawn from several communities within the hinterland regions of Guyana.

First Lady Ali stated that the scholarships awarded to the girls form part of Tidewater’s social responsibility. More significantly, she highlighted the company’s decision to support this initiative even before it has started earning any revenue from its operations in Guyana.

Through her office, the First Lady has been leveraging her relationships with individuals, organizations, and companies to ensure the empowerment of women, girls, young people, and persons with disabilities.
