Falling tree kills miner in interior accident

A tragic mining accident at 13 Miles, Mango Landing, Upper Demerara River, has claimed the life of 27-year-old Mark Anthony Williams of Morashee Village, East Bank Essequibo.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 15:00 hrs on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at a gold mining camp in the area.
Reports indicate that Williams, was inside a mining pit along with other workers when heavy rain and strong winds developed.
During the adverse weather conditions, a tree reportedly fell into the pit, striking Williams and causing severe head injuries. He was removed from the pit in an unconscious state and was later found to be unresponsive.
Arrangements are being made to transport the body from the remote location to a mortuary for examination.
