Moraikobai Toddler Drowns While Bathing in Creek Near Grandmother’s House

The peaceful Indigenous community of Moraikobai, Mahaicony Creek, was thrown into mourning on Saturday following the tragic drowning of a two-year-old boy, identified as Devin Jacobs.

BIG SMITH News Watch understands that little Devin had asked his mother, Neisa Andrews, that morning to allow him and his siblings to visit their grandmother, Herbineta Andrews, who lives just 2 to 3 minutes away from their home.

Police said that around 8:30 a.m., the children arrived at their grandmother’s home and later asked to take a bath in the nearby creek — a routine part of their visits and a common pastime for children in the close-knit village.

Their grandmother, trusting that the children knew the area well, gave them permission. However, about 15 minutes later, when she went to check on them, her heart sank — Devin was nowhere to be found.

A frantic search began immediately, with relatives and villagers combing the creek and its surroundings. Despite their desperate efforts, there was no sign of the toddler.

However, around 11:00 a.m., Steven Fredericks, a villager, went to bathe at the same creek and made the heart-wrenching discovery — the toddler’s body floating lifelessly in the water.

He raised an alarm, and villagers rushed to the scene; their worst fears confirmed. The child was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

As of now, the body is at Bailey’s Funeral Parlour, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
