Two drivers involved in Saturday’s fatal accident along Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara, have been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and remanded to prison.

Kord Sobers, 55, of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, who was driving motor lorry GAF 1093, and Colin Cumberbatch, 31, of Kitty, Georgetown, the driver of minibus BAH 9443, were charged in connection with the crash that claimed the life of 36-year-old Ruddy Raymond of Jonestown, Lima, Essequibo Coast.

The charges were instituted under Section 35(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act No. 16 of 1998.

The men appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the indictable charges were read to them. They were not required to plead and were remanded to prison.

The matters were adjourned to July 10, 2026, for report.
