Cummings Park Multipurpose Facility to be Rehabilitated

November 6 2024– In a collaborative effort aimed at community development, Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson, met last evening with representatives from SBM Offshore-Guyana, to discuss the rehabilitation of the Cummings Park (Sophia) Multipurpose Facility.

The meeting saw the attendance of the company’s Country Manager Martin Cheong, and the Executive Director of the NGO National Coordinating Coalition (NCC), Simone Sills.
Minister Croal highlighted that the projectβs primary goal is to transform the facility into a vibrant space that offers significant benefits to the community, with a strong emphasis on youth engagement.
Minister Ramson also underscored the importance of the upgrade, describing it as a critical investment in community development.
The NCC currently occupies the facility under a five-year agreement established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the former Community Development Council (CDC). The planned upgrades aim to enhance services for the community, creating opportunities for youth engagement, recreational activities, and social development.
The partnership is expected to be formalized through a new MOU in the coming weeks.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Director of Community Development at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Donell Bess-Bascom, and Head of the Corporate Legal Secretariat, Hannifah Jordan, alongside other officials.
