In an ongoing effort to enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of the Guyana Police Force, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, along with Deputy Commissioner of Administration (ag) Ravindradat Budhram and Assistant Commissioner of Operations Errol Watts, convened a crucial meeting with Inspectors and Chief Inspectors on earlier today.

The session took place at the Officers’ Mess Annexe in Eve Leary and is part of a series of meetings aimed at improving the Force’s overall performance.

This latest meeting follows prior engagements with senior and junior officers as Commissioner Hicken continues to emphasize the importance of clear communication and effective leadership within the Force.

Senior Superintendent Jermaine Johnson, Woman Superintendent Carol Fraser-Harding, Superintendent Mitchell Ceaser, and Superintendent Prem Narine, who were seated at the head table, reinforced the message that it is imperative for ranks to fully understand their roles and responsibilities.

The Inspectors and Chief Inspectors were encouraged to closely monitor their junior ranks and maintain vigilance in their respective regions, given the pervasive nature of crime and its impact on society.

Assistant Commissioner Watts announced plans to reinstate fortnightly or monthly drills for Inspectors. He stressed that these drills are vital for ensuring that Inspectors remain well-prepared and proficient, ultimately leading to greater efficiency and effectiveness in their duties.

Watts also emphasized the importance of collaboration among ranks to fulfill the vision of the Guyana Police Force and meet public expectations, ensuring that service is delivered with dignity and pride.

Deputy Commissioner Budhram provided an update on the significant progress the Guyana Police Force is making in its ongoing reforms and initiatives. He highlighted the strides in modernizing the Force and improving its effectiveness in serving the public.

Budhram also reminded the Inspectors and Chief Inspectors to maintain humility, discipline, and integrity in their roles, urging them to remain committed to their duties and serve with a strong moral compass.

Commissioner Hicken focused on the importance of appearance and conduct within the Force. He stressed that ranks must present themselves immaculately and uphold the values of the organization both in and out of uniform. Hicken also emphasized the need for ranks to prioritize their fitness and health, noting that maintaining good physical condition is essential for optimal performance.

Commissioner Hicken concluded by challenging the Inspectors and Chief Inspectors to lead by example and set a high standard for excellence within the Force. He reminded them of the five pillars of the 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, particularly the focus on building partnerships to bridge the gap between the public and the Police Force.

Concerns raised by the officers were thoroughly addressed during the meeting, with the Commissioner and other senior officials providing clear guidance. The Top Cop is scheduled to meet with sergeants later in the week as part of a broader effort to ensure that the entire Force is aligned in its mission to serve and protect the public effectively.
