April 17, 2025 – The community of Citrus Grove in Region One has received a new boat and engine to support transportation and income-generating activities, following an official handover ceremony held on Wednesday evening.

Leading the presentation was Minister of Housing and Water and Parliamentary Representative for Region One, Collin Croal.

Also present were Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley, Assistant Regional Executive Officer Jason Ramjohn, and Community Development Council (CDC) Chairperson Anita Clementson.

The new boat, valued at $500,000, was procured through the 2024 Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) fund. The accompanying engine, costing $950,000, was financed under the 2023 Presidential Grant.

This initiative forms part of the government’s continued efforts to empower hinterland and riverine communities through sustainable and targeted investments.

The boat will strengthen the capacity of the CDC by enabling it to generate revenue, while also serving a critical role in the transportation of school children in the area, improving their access to education.

In addition to the newly acquired vessel, repairs were recently completed on another boat currently used to assist local farmers, further enhancing support for the community’s livelihood activities.
