Two Chinese nationals were arrested and charged in connection with the assault of a Bartica resident. The incident led to their court appearance on Thursday, July 10, 2025, where they pleaded guilty to the charge of Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm.

The accused, 37-year-old Cai Zhiming and 27-year-old Qiu Weifu, both labourers residing at Lot 76 First Avenue, Bartica, were taken into custody on Wednesday, July 9, following a report by the victim, Jason James.

The duo appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court. After entering guilty pleas, each was fined $15,000. In default of payment, they face two weeks of imprisonment.

The matter has since been concluded following the imposition of the fines.
