Saddle Up for the Spectacle: Guyana Cup 2025 Promises Glitz, Glam, and Galloping Glory

April 10 2025 – Get ready, Guyana—because the countdown has officially begun for the most thrilling sporting and entertainment event of the year! The 17th Running of the Guyana Cup is galloping its way back to the Rising Sun Turf Club on August 17, 2025, and this year promises to be the most extravagant edition yet.

Organized by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Committee, this prestigious annual event is not just about horse racing—it’s a full-blown celebration of athleticism, culture, and unforgettable entertainment.

Following a historic victory at the 42nd edition of the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup, where Guyana clinched first place in its debut appearance, the momentum around local horse racing has reached an all-time high. That golden triumph has only fueled the fire for what’s shaping up to be the biggest Guyana Cup in history.

A statement from the organising committee noted that the team is pulling out all the stops to ensure the 2025 event captures both the spirit of competition and the heart of the Caribbean.

With a jaw-dropping cash prize pool exceeding forty million dollars—marking the largest purse ever in the Caribbean—the stakes couldn’t be higher.

This year’s event will feature an 11-race program packed with high-caliber competitors, including a fresh twist: an open nomination for the marquee Guyana Cup race.

This change comes in response to the influx of imported horses and passionate new owners eager to make their mark on the track. Among the confirmed stars is Olympic Kremlin, the 2024 champion from Slingerz Stable, who returns via automatic entry.

But the action doesn’t stop at the finish line.

This year’s Guyana Cup introduces a premium VVIP Village for patrons seeking a first-class experience. Picture this: an elegant lounge-style setting, exclusive private cabanas, and a grand stage offering a stunning 360-degree view of the racing ring.

And once the races wrap up, that same stage becomes the perfect vantage point for the after-show, offering front-row views of electrifying live performances.

Speaking of the after-show—get ready to dance the night away! Expect an energetic blend of Chutney and Soca as a vibrant lineup of local stars takes the stage, with a mystery international headliner to be announced soon. As if that weren’t enough, a colorful cultural parade will circle the ring, showcasing the diversity and traditions that make Guyana so unique. And yes, the beloved Kiddies Zone will be back, ensuring the event remains fun and inclusive for the entire family.

Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is also on the agenda. This year’s Cup will create a special space for local businesses to showcase their goods at minimal cost, shining a spotlight on the role SMEs play in driving economic development.

In the days leading up to race day, excitement builds with “Brunch with the Stars”—a stylish mixer where fans can mingle with their favorite jockeys, snap photos, and witness the live race draw in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

From elite equine action to cultural flair and non-stop entertainment, the 2025 Guyana Cup is not just a race—it’s an experience. Get ready to witness history, celebrate Caribbean pride, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
