Traffic Advisory for ICC T20 Cricket World Cup Matches at Guyana National Stadium

Georgetown, Guyana – In light of the upcoming ICC T20 Cricket World Cup matches at the Guyana National Stadium, the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force has issued the following traffic advisory.

 

Match Schedule

  1. West Indies vs. Papua New Guinea
    • Date: Sunday, June 2, 2024
    • Time: 10:30 hrs
  2. Afghanistan vs. Uganda
    • Date: Monday, June 3, 2024
    • Time: 20:30 hrs
  3. Papua New Guinea vs. Uganda
    • Date: Wednesday, June 5, 2024
    • Time: 19:30 hrs
  4. New Zealand vs. Afghanistan
    • Date: Friday, June 7, 2024
    • Time: 19:30 hrs
  5. West Indies vs. Uganda
    • Date: Saturday, June 8, 2024
    • Time: 20:30 hrs
  6. Semi-Final 2
    • Date: Thursday, June 27, 2024
    • Time: 10:30 hrs

 

Traffic Arrangements

On the specified dates, the following traffic measures will be in effect to facilitate smooth traffic flow along the East Bank of Demerara:

  • Patrons and VIPs in vehicles should proceed south along the eastern drive lane of the eastern carriageway of East Bank Public Road to access the stadium.
  • Drivers heading further south of the National Stadium should use the western drive lane of the eastern carriageway of East Bank Public Road.
  • A third lane on the eastern drive lane of the western carriageway will be used to direct traffic west across the Demerara Harbour Bridge, managed by traffic ranks.

 

Parking Information

  • General Parking: Available at the second access opposite GuyOil.
  • Special Invitees and Officials: Access via the Third Entrance (Greenfield Road).
  • No Parking Zones: Eastern and western carriageways between Bagotstown Public Road and Providence Public Road near Rubis Gas Station.
  • Pre-Purchase Parking Tickets: Patrons are advised to buy parking tickets before game days to avoid traffic disruptions.
  • Carpooling: Encouraged to reduce congestion.
  • Signage: Will be erected to guide patrons.

 

Alternate Routes

To/from East Bank of Demerara:

  • Mandela to Eccles Interlink to Heroes Highway: Exits at Mocha Access Road, Little Diamond Access Road, and Diamond Access Road for southbound traffic along the East Bank corridor.
  • Northbound Traffic: Use Diamond Access Road, Little Diamond Public Road, and Mocha Road to access Heroes Highway and proceed north into Georgetown and beyond to avoid congestion.

 

Post-Game Exit

  • General Parking Lot Patrons: Exit the stadium and proceed along the eastern carriageway of Providence Public Road onto Mocha Road, exiting at Heroes Highway.
  • Managed Traffic Flows: Police presence will guide all vehicular traffic. Drivers must follow police directions and proceed with caution.

 

Road Construction Notices

The following roads are currently under construction:

  1. Dump Site Road (Eccles & Bagotstown)
  2. Red Road (Providence to Heroes Highway)
  3. Green Field Road (between Providence Public Road and Heroes Highway)
  4. Windsor Estate (between Eccles Dumpsite Road and Greenfield Road)

 

Advisory

The Traffic Department urges all road users to adhere to the traffic arrangements, utilize alternate routes, carpool, and follow all traffic laws and regulations. If you do not have a parking ticket or VIP entry/parking, avoid obstructing traffic or disregarding police directions.
