The motorcycles and marijuana among the dead

Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper and a party of policemen on Friday found two motorcycles and a quantity of marijuana parked and stashed between tombs in the Kingelly Burial Ground, West Coast Berbice.

The discoveries were made after the police received information about the presence of the substances and items which were reportedly placed at the location by traffickers and persons who are of interest to the police.

The day’s activities started at approximately 01:00hrs on Friday which lasted for four hours as the police conducted a cordon and search exercise in the Weldaad area, West Coast Berbice.

Two bulky parcels were found during that search, one by a police constable and the other by the commander himself who was also part of the operation.

The items were taken to the police station and it was there that the items were opened and examined where police ranks found that the parcels contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be that of the cannabis satavia. The item was weighed and found to be approximately seventy-two pounds.

Later in the morning, at approximately 09:00hrs, the commander and team continued another leg of their operation which was intelligence-led, this time at KKingelly.

It was there that the two large transparent bulky plastic parcels were found among some tombs in the area. That search also saw the discovery of three motorcycles bearing registration numbers CK 4203, CK 1363, and CH 7170 along with a green haversack containing one Samsung Cellular phone.

The police were still on the ground conducting their operation when they observed a young man whose name was given as ‘Storm’ standing a short distance from the location of the operation, but who began to run.

The ranks gave chase but the young man managed to elude the law enforcers the items including the parcels were taken to the police station where the suspected cannabis was weighed and found to be approximately sixty-four pounds.

Investigations into the discovery of all items recovered and ongoing.
