KILLED: Kevin  Thomas called ‘Cross-eye’

NINETEEN Year old Kevin Thomas called ‘cross-eye’ of Plumb Park Sophia, a habitual motorcycle thief was shot and killed this morning in Plaisance after his pillion rider decided to open fire on a police patrol which attempted to accost them as they rode around the community.

BIG Smith News Watch has been told that just after 02:30hrs this morning while at Victoria Road Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, the police saw the motorcycle with the two occupants and decided to follow but the rider, Kevin Thomas made several maneuvers to escape the lawmen while his pillion ridder opened fire on the ranks.

According to information reaching BIG Smith News Watch, Kevin Thomas was charged with armed robbery on the 20th of January 2020. At that time, he provided his address as South Sophia, in addition, was charged for simple larceny between 2018 & 2019 of a motorcycle at Ruimveldt.

A police rank who was armed with a pistol returned fire, killing Thomas in the process while his pillion ride managed to escape leaving Thomas and the motorcycle CK 1893 behind.

The police would later find out that the motorcycle had been moments before, stolen from the premises of a Plaisance residence who at the time of the shooting was looking for the suspects and even crossed paths with them prior to them being engaged by the police.

According to what this publication was told, the shot man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention. He received a single gunshot wound to the chest.

As the police retrieved the motorcycle, they were en route to the Sparendaam Police Station when a 50-year-old technician from the community of Plaisance notice a police officer riding the motorcycle and identified it to be that of his son.

He then related to the police that they were awoken from their slumber by barking dogs and the start of the motorcycle which was in the yard.

The man indicated to the ranks that after the motorcycle rode off, he jumped on his pedal cycle and rode around the community in search of the motorcycle and at one point came into contact with the two suspects. He then got off his pedal cycle and tossed in into the path of his stolen bike which the suspects were riding but they swerved away from it in order to avoid a collision.

In examining the motorcycle, the police found that the fork lock was broken and the ignition wires cut in order to hot-start the motorcycle. The police photographed the motorcycle and also carried out an examination on the police vehicle but no bullet holes were found.

The firearm used by the police to shoot the suspect was lodged in order to have a ballistic test carried out on it even as the hands for all the ranks who were on the patrol were swabbed for gun powder residue.
