Woman arrested as stolen gun, ammo, other items recovered

RECOVERED: The gun, ammo, and other items which are now in the custody of the police

A woman is now in police custody after an intelligence-led operation at a property where she was present saw the recovery of a gun and ammunition which were stolen from a retired teacher a few days ago even as three males who are familiar to law enforcement are now on the run.

The arrest of the woman stemmed from the recovery of a 20 Gauge Single Barrel Shotgun which was stolen from the home of a Vreed-En- Hoop Businessman on April 20, 2020, along with several rounds of live ammunition.

BIG Smith News Watch was informed that on Saturday, a team of police ranks from the district station received intelligence that a number of stolen items along with the weapon and ammunition were stashed at a property in a nearby squatting area.

The ranks moved to the area just after 16:00hrs. Upon their arrival at the location based on the intelligence received, the police observed that the gate the premises was locked.

Three young men who were in the yard at the time saw the police and dashed from the premises causing the police to give chase but the suspects managed to elude the ranks.

This prompted the police to carry out a search inside the house but nothing of evidential value was found. The search continued in the yard where the gun, ammo, binocular, and several items were recovered in a bathroom in the yard.

The woman was escorted to the police station after claiming ignorance of the presence of the items in the yard. The police cross-checked the gun with that of a weapon which was reported missing earlier last week from a pensioner and it was found that the shotgun was the one actual one which was stolen during a break and entry committed on the home of a 69-year-old retired teacher.

BIG Smith News watch was told that the in addition to the gun, ammo and binocular; the other recovered items include: Two twenty pounds empty gas cylinders, One complete X Box game, One Sony camera, Two purses, One Honda water pump, Two cutlasses, One hack saw and One crescent.

The police are continuing their search for the three men who it is now suspected have been carrying out a number of robberies in the area.
