Housing Ministry advancing 27 recreational grounds across Guyana

The Ministry of Housing is advancing the development of 27 recreational grounds across several regions as part of efforts to improve amenities and quality of life in housing communities.

 

Minister of Housing Collin Croal provided an update on the initiative on Friday, October 2, during a visit to the recreational facility being developed at La Reconnaissance on the East Coast of Demerara.

 

La Reconnaissance is among several communities benefiting from the programme.

 

The housing development currently has 175 low-income homes under construction, alongside investments aimed at providing residents with safe and accessible spaces for recreation, exercise and family activities.

 

According to Minister Croal, 12 recreational grounds are currently being developed in Region Four, forming part of the 27 facilities being advanced nationally.

 

The initiative forms part of the Government’s broader housing programme, which the ministry said extends beyond the allocation of house lots and construction of homes to improving the overall living environment within communities.

 

At Le Reconnaissance, the first phase of development includes construction of a perimeter fence, concrete drainage around the ground and land levelling.

 

The second phase, to be undertaken in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, will include additional enhancements such as a walking path for exercise and recreational amenities, including slides for children.

 

Similar recreational investments are being undertaken in other communities where the Ministry of Housing has ongoing development programmes.

 

The programme complements wider government efforts through the Ministries of Local Government and Regional Development and Public Works to improve community infrastructure and create safer, more functional spaces for residents.

 

The Housing Ministry said the expansion of the national housing programme will continue to be accompanied by infrastructure and amenities designed to support vibrant and family-friendly communities.
