Bartica taxi driver granted 75k bail for narcotics trafficking

A 36-year-old Bartica taxi driver has been charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and granted $75,000 bail.

 

Leon Alert, of Fifth Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River, was arrested on Sunday, September 13, 2026, and subsequently charged on Wednesday, September 16, under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

 

Alert appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Caressa Henry, where the charge was read to him.

 

He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $75,000.

 

The matter was adjourned to October 26, 2026, for continuation.
