Security officer shot dead at Non Pareil supermarket

A 25-year-old security officer was shot dead Wednesday night while performing security duties at a supermarket along the Non Pareil Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.

The deceased has been identified as Keion Wilman of Dazzel Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.

Police said the incident occurred at about 9:25 p.m. while Wilman was in the entrance area of the supermarket.

Two males reportedly approached on a motorcycle, and one allegedly discharged a firearm in his direction before both suspects fled the scene on the motorcycle.

Wilman sustained gunshot injuries to his upper body and was rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

A suspected warhead and a suspected live 9mm round were recovered at the scene. Police also recovered the 12-gauge shotgun and four live cartridges issued to Wilman for his duties as an armed security officer.

CCTV footage has been obtained as investigators work to identify and locate the two suspects.

Wilman’s body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
