Women jailed, fined for assault and unlawful wounding

Two women have been sentenced after pleading guilty to charges of Unlawful Wounding and Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm in the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.

 

The women, Terizita Parks, 19, of Bonfim, Brazil and Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, and Camille James, 26, of Tabatinga, Lethem, were charged under Sections 30(b) and 30(a), respectively, of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:02.

 

They appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, where the charges were read separately. Both women pleaded guilty to the offences.

 

For the offence of Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm, each was fined $30,000, with three months’ imprisonment in default of payment.

 

They were also each sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for Unlawful Wounding.
