Woman killed, two critically injured in Coverden head-on crash

A 49-year-old woman was killed and two motorists were left critically injured following a head-on collision along the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Wednesday evening.
Dead is Cheryl Skeete, 49, of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, who was a passenger in motor car PAM 6733.
Police said the accident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. and involved motor cars PAM 6733, driven by a 49-year-old woman of Soesdyke, and PAM 2468, driven by a 44-year-old man of Coverden.
According to initial investigations, the driver of motor car PAM 2468 was travelling north along the western driving lane of the Coverden Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed behind another vehicle, PYY 615, when he attempted to overtake. During the manoeuvre, the vehicle reportedly collided head-on with motor car **PAM 6733**, which was travelling south in its proper lane.
The impact left both vehicles extensively damaged.
Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced Skeete dead at the scene.
The female driver of PAM 6733 was pulled from the wreckage by members of the Guyana Fire Service and taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The driver of PAM 2468 was also taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital. Police said his condition is critical but stable.
Skeete’s body has been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations into the fatal crash are continuing.
