Detained Police Constable Randy Thomas has allegedly confessed to fatally shooting his Cuban girlfriend, Dailen Paneque Gomez, and disposing of her body in the Enmore Backdam.
The confession came Wednesday night after detectives discovered the decomposing remains of the 26-year-old Mon Repos resident in a clump of bushes.
Gomez had been missing since June 18 after she was seen boarding a bus for work.
“Investigators were able to retrieve digital evidence of the victim joining the suspect’s motor vehicle prior to her being reported missing”, a police official told BIG Smith News Watch.
It has been confirmed that Thomas and Gomez were in a relationship.
Investigators allege that he contacted Gomez and arranged to meet her at Enmore, before the two travelled in his car to the backdam area.
According to investigators, Thomas claimed an argument erupted and that Gomez assaulted him.
He further stated that he was in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and he placed a teddy bear against her head before discharging a round to her head.
He stated that he then tied her with a rope and dragged her body into nearby bushes.
He claimed he bought the rope from a Chinese store at Mahaica on the same day (June 18) that he killed her.
Investigators said Thomas allegedly returned to his Mahaica home and cleaned the interior of his vehicle with hand sanitizer.
He also allegedly disposed of Gomez’s cellphone and the spent shell over a bridge at Unity.
Thomas said he disposed of the firearm in bushes in the backdam area, while the teddy bear was thrown along the roadway leading to the backdam.
Investigations are continuing.
