A dramatic armed confrontation at a supermarket on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, on Wednesday night ended with one man dead following an attempted robbery.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. when three men entered the business establishment. Reports indicate that one of the men was armed and allegedly confronted two security guards, ordering them to lie on the ground.

During the unfolding situation, an armed exchange erupted, prompting the suspects to flee the supermarket in different directions.

According to police, one of the men, believed to have been carrying a handgun, was later found in a nearby drain along Mandela Avenue. He sustained gunshot injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead by a doctor.

Authorities recovered a .38 revolver from the scene along with several spent shells and live rounds.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

Further details surrounding the incident are expected to be made available as investigations continue.
