Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a homeless man known only as “Gandy” following an altercation on Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to preliminary information from Regional Division 4 ‘A’, the incident occurred at about 1:30 hrs on May 25, 2026.

Investigators said the man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old and of no fixed place of abode, was on Hadfield Street when he was approached by an identifiable male. The two reportedly became involved in a scuffle.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim once to the centre of his chest. The injured man collapsed on the roadway while the suspect reportedly fled north along Hadfield Street with the weapon.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene, where the victim was later pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Police said CCTV cameras in the area were observed and footage will be reviewed as investigations continue.

The body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting formal identification and a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains at large as police continue their investigations.
