The Housing Ministry is currently looking at new areas in Region Five to develop housing schemes, according to Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal. During a visit to the Region on Wednesday, he noted that negotiations are ongoing to access lands owned by other state agencies for the development.

“For future development, there are a number of areas being looked at and so far lands that we have identified are lands owned by the [Mahaica, Mahaicony, Abary/ Agricultural Democratic Authority (MMA/ADA)] and NICIL -the National Industrial, Commercial Investments Limited,” he told reporters.

The Minister visited the new Experiment housing scheme, West Coast Berbice (WCB), where he met with contractors to address delays in the ongoing infrastructural works.

He noted that more than 500 persons will benefit from house lots in the scheme and will be able to access their lands by the end of the year.

“There were some initial concerns in terms of some slight delay with accessing the reef sand but we’ve met all the contractors, worked out the timeline for completion. So allottees here at Experiment can be assured that they will be able to access the facility and the works will be complete in terms of the road networking,” he said.

Further, Minister Croal addressed security concerns of residents at Hope Plantation, WCB committing to donating several streetlights to the community and engage Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn on other issues.

He was accompanied by Member of Parliament, Faizal Jaffarally, Regional Chairman, Vickchand Ramphal and Regional Housing Officer, Krisendat Balkaran.
