Jermaine Bristol, who was once enlisted in the Guyana Police Force (GPF), pleaded guilty to a murder charge on Friday over brutally stabbing his 24-year-old girlfriend to death.

Bristol, 38, appeared before Demerara High Court Judge Sandil Kissoon before whom he pleaded guilty to the indictment which stated that he murdered Shanece Lawrence on August 22, 2018, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown.

The confessed killer was represented by defence counsel Everton Singh-Lammy while State Counsel Muntaz Ali appeared on behalf of the prosecution.

Sentencing for Bristol has been deferred until October 27.

According to reports, Lawrence died after she was stabbed multiple times with a knife by Bristol, who after committing the act, surrendered at the Brickdam Police Station.

The couple had been involved for about seven years and started living together in June of 2018. Previous reports indicated that Lawrence was physically abused by her partner.

It was reported that Lawrence had reported her partner’s abusive tendencies to the Police after they got into an altercation at a hotel where he allegedly threw away her personal belongings.
