A 64-year-old Indian national was found dead in a room at the Sleep Inn Hotel in Georgetown under circumstances that remain unclear.
The deceased has been identified as Desai Pankaj Roy, who is believed to have been a medical doctor. His body was discovered in a third-floor room at the hotel.
Based on observations from the scene, the room contained two queen-sized beds, suggesting the possibility that he may have been expecting company or was not alone during his stay.
In the room, the bed on which the man was found reportedly held a backpack containing clothing and personal items. He was seen holding the hotel’s cordless phone, while an opened energy drink was positioned on a bedside table nearby. He was fully clothed at the time, though his belt was undone.
The second bed appeared to have several personal effects laid out, including two pairs of glasses, a watch, a mobile phone, and multiple plastic bags containing various items. A number of books were also visible on that bed.
Meanwhile, management of the Sleep Inn Hotel, Casino and Resort, in a public statement, has confirmed the death of a guest at the facility and extended condolences to his family and loved ones.
In a statement, the hotel indicated that the matter was immediately reported to the Guyana Police Force, which has since launched an investigation.
