Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Tuesday met with managers and senior staff of the New Guyana Marketing Corporation (New GMC) to assess departmental operations and outline strategies to strengthen Guyana’s agro-processing and marketing capacity.

The engagement forms part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s broader push to improve efficiency, expand value-added production, and create greater market opportunities for local farmers and agro-processors.

During discussions, Minister Mustapha pointed to ongoing government investments in the sector, including increased budgetary support, the development and outfitting of agro-processing and packaging facilities, and partnerships with regional retail chains.

He also highlighted Guyana’s participation in local and international expos as a key avenue for promoting agro-processed goods, noting that such initiatives are critical to positioning the country as a competitive force in both regional and global markets.

The meeting underscores continued efforts to strengthen the value chain and enhance the visibility and viability of Guyana’s agro-processing industry.
