AGRI MIN Delivers Support to Farmers Along Soesdyke-Linden Highway

August 11 2025
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha recently met with farmers and residents from Loo Creek, Adventure, Kairuni, and Silver Hill, fulfilling a series of commitments aimed at advancing agricultural development along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Farmers from organized groups in the four communities received a range of essential inputs to boost cash crop and poultry production, including tillers, water tanks, watering cans, seeds, and other tools to support small- and medium-scale farming.
Minister Mustapha reaffirmed the government’s pledge to strengthen the agriculture sector, noting its focus on making farming less labor-intensive and more technologically driven, while ensuring that rural and hinterland farmers have the resources needed to succeed.
As part of previous commitments, three contracts were signed to clear 110 acres of land at a cost of approximately $32 million. The Minister also announced the expansion of the poultry programme, with the Guyana Livestock Development Authority set to deliver 10,000 broiler chicks and feed—shared equally among the four communities—in the coming days. Additionally, the ministry will provide a tractor with a trailer and implements to assist with land preparation and other farming tasks.
Mustapha stressed that these initiatives are part of the government’s wider effort to deliver tangible benefits to farming communities nationwide.
