The Guyana Fire Service and the Police Force are investigating a fire which took place in Campbellville early Tuesday morning that claimed the life of a pensioner.

Dead is 77-Year-Old Amgold Thompson of Lot 73, John Street Campbellville Georgetown where the fire occurred.

Speaking with BIG Smith News Watch on Tuesday morning at the scene, Jumanne Thompson, a daughter of the dead man related that her father and other family members were on their way out of the burning building when he turned back.

The woman explained that her son woke her up after a strange sound was heard and the family noticed that there was fire on the wall in the middle room.

Occupants of the home then attempted to put out the fire and were able bring it under some level of control. They then used that window of opportunity to begin vacating the building.

It was at that point that the senior Thompson and his wife were walking out together when he turned back and became trapped in the fire.

When this publication arrived at the scene, the Guyana Fire Service personnel were conducting the mopping up exercise.

At that point, the remains of the elderly man were not yet located and removed.

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn was also said to have been on the ground prior to our arrival and based on what we were told, he also got into firefighting mood, even pulling hose in the process.

Amgold Thompson once worked as a General Manager of the Guyana National Printers Limited and was also an artist and photographer, according to his daughter.
