$200M invested to support security and development in Region One

The Government of Guyana has invested more than $200 million to enhance services and security in the hinterland community of Imbotero, Region One, with the commissioning of a reconstructed Imbotero Wharf, a new Police Boathouse, and a rebuilt Imbotero Police Station along the Barima River.

The developments are aimed at strengthening support systems for residents while improving the capacity of law enforcement agencies operating in the riverine community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond emphasized that hinterland and border communities remain a priority for the government.

She noted that border communities are not the edges of Guyana, they are the frontline of our sovereignty.

The upgraded infrastructure will allow for expanded river patrols, improved monitoring along the Barima River corridor, and faster responses to incidents affecting nearby villages.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to invest in hinterland development, strengthen state services, and ensure that residents in remote and frontier regions benefit from improved security and infrastructure.
