Golden Jags to face Puerto Rico in September

Golden Jaguars during one of their tournaments
Guyana’s Golden Jaguars have learned their group placement after Concacaf confirmed the match schedule for the opening windows of the 2026/27 Nations League.
The Golden Jaguars have been drawn alongside Puerto Rico, Dominica, and the Cayman Islands in League B, Group A for the fifth edition of the regional tournament, which doubles up as the primary qualification pathway for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.
A new Head Coach, Marco Bonofiglio, will be in charge of the team as they hunt a return to League A.
Top spot in the group carries a double prize: direct promotion to League A for the next cycle and a place in the inaugural centralised League B Championship tournament in March 2027.
Finish bottom, however, and the threat of relegation to League C looms.
Guyana enter the group as one of the seed heavyweights, but face an immediate test away to a rapidly improving Puerto Rico side on the opening matchday in late September.
To reduce travel strains on squads, Concacaf will continue using centralised hosting venues across the autumn international windows.
Under the updated setup:
- September fixtures will be hosted by the third-highest ranked team in each group.
- October fixtures will be hosted by the second-highest ranked team.
- November fixtures will be hosted by the top-ranked group sides.
Following the initial double-header windows in September and October, the final round of Group A fixtures will take place during the 9–17 November FIFA match dates.
