February 13 2026

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 12, 2026, at the Racquet Centre in Georgetown, where over 30 members attended.

Franklin Wilson was elected unopposed as president, marking a return to leadership after a brief hiatus, which reflects the trust the federation has in his capabilities.

Wilson’s executive team for the upcoming term features Gordon Spencer as Vice President and Roger Rogers as General Secretary, both retaining their positions. Bjorn Williams continues as a Committee Member, while Kiana Benjamin steps back into the role of Treasurer. Denroy Livan has been appointed Public Relations Officer/Organising Secretary, and the team welcomes new Committee Members Lisa Oudit and Nedisha Tinnis.

In his post-election comments, Wilson thanked outgoing President Paul Meusa for his service and acknowledged the challenges faced by the sport. He highlighted the urgent need to restore the sport’s image, emphasizing a commitment to athlete-first initiatives.

Looking ahead, Wilson outlined plans to broaden powerlifting’s reach by engaging schools and local communities, fostering youth participation. He also underscored the importance of corporate partnerships for sustainable growth and commended the Government of Guyana for its ongoing support, particularly in the development of a high-performance center to facilitate future competitions.

With a revitalized leadership team and a focused agenda, the GAPLF is set to advance the sport of powerlifting throughout Guyana, encouraging discipline and excellence among its athletes.
