A 53-year-old labourer of Brush Dam, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, has been charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery committed earlier this month.

The accused, Joseph George, was charged with Robbery Under Arms.

The charge relates to an incident involving a 47-year-old self-employed woman of Montrose, East Coast Demerara, which allegedly occurred on Monday, February 9, 2026, along the Vryheid’s Lust Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

George appeared before the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, February 12, 2026, where the charge was read to him by Magistrate Clive Nurse.

He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand Guyana dollars ($150,000).

The matter has been adjourned to March 17, 2026, for further proceedings.
