Murder suspect, juveniles arrested in police operation

Police have arrested a 19-year-old male from Annai Village, North Rupununi, in connection with the alleged murder of 21-year-old tour guide John Elliot of Surama Village.

 

The murder occurred on September 21, 2025, at Annai Village.

 

The arrest took place during an intelligence-led operation on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at around 23:30hrs.

 

According to a police report, officers, upon arriving at the residence, found several individuals inside and conducted a search.

 

During the search, a quantity of suspected cannabis, weighing 11 grams, was found in the possession of the 19-year-old suspect and subsequently lodged by police.

 

Five male juveniles and a 21-year-old male were also taken into custody and escorted to the Annai Police Station to assist with ongoing investigations.

 

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into the murder and related activities is ongoing.
