Suspect charged with Vigilance killing

A 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Shawn Edwards, marking the third fatal shooting linked to the recent violence in Vigilance, East Coast Demerara.
Tyreese Chester was charged on Thursday in connection with the killing and is expected to appear before the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
Chester was taken into custody on Tuesday, July 21, after surrendering to police in the company of his attorney. Police had previously issued a wanted bulletin for him.
Edwards, 35, was found on the Vigilance Public Road with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He later succumbed to his injuries at the Enmore Regional Hospital.
Sources close to Edwards told BIG Smith News Watch that before his death, he identified Chester as the man who shot him.
The charge comes as investigators continue probing the recent spate of deadly shootings in the Vigilance area.
