February 6 2026

President Irfaan Ali on Friday, February 6, 2026, met with miners in Puruni, Region Seven, as part of a government outreach aimed at addressing issues within the small-scale mining sector.

The engagement, which also included Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat, provided a platform for miners to raise concerns about operational challenges, regulatory matters, and opportunities for growth in the industry.

During the meeting, government officials outlined ongoing and planned initiatives designed to support miners, improve working conditions, and enhance the sustainability of mining activities in the region.

Miners were additionally briefed on key provisions in Budget 2026, with emphasis on measures expected to strengthen the mining sector and provide broader economic benefits to Guyanese.

The visit underscores the administration’s continued commitment to dialogue with miners and to advancing development in Guyana’s natural resources sector.
