The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has intensified enforcement against dangerous driving, with several motorists fined, granted bail, having their licences suspended, or facing possible imprisonment after being prosecuted for traffic offences captured by automated cameras.

According to  a police report, the cases form part of the ongoing implementation of the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS), a joint initiative between the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) and the Guyana Police Force. The system uses automated traffic cameras and data-driven monitoring to detect offences such as speeding and third-lane violations and support prosecutions through the courts.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, a number of drivers appeared before the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #2 and the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #7 on charges of Dangerous Driving. The matters were heard by Her Worship Ms. Abigail Gibbs and Her Worship Ms. S. Lallram, respectively.

Before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs, Junior McKenzie, the driver of minibus BAF 6744, was charged with two counts of Dangerous Driving and fined $100,000. Orin Harper, driver of minibus BPP 3825, also faced two counts and was similarly fined $100,000.

Hemraj Ramfal, driver of minibus BAE 7621, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $150,000. His matter was adjourned to February 26, 2026, for statements.
