The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has provided an update on murder and road traffic fatality statistics for 2025, reporting that 130 murders were recorded during the year, along with 124 road accidents that resulted in 137 traffic-related deaths.

In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs emphasised that annual crime and traffic data are subject to a structured process of compilation, verification and approval before being released to the public. This process, the Force noted, is necessary to ensure that all figures are accurate, complete and properly reconciled across all police divisions.

The police further explained that while crime trends and provisional statistics were shared during the Christmas Policing briefing held in November 2025, the reporting year had not yet officially closed at that time and the data was still undergoing final verification.

The statement reiterated the Guyana Police Force’s commitment to providing the media and the public with accurate and verifiable information once the verification process is fully completed.
