Two Mabaruma residents were fined after being charged for driving motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.

Jonel Fernandes and Trivette Harry were recently arrested and charged after police determined that their breath alcohol levels exceeded the prescribed legal limit.

Both accused appeared today, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Clive Nurse, where the charges were read to them. They each pleaded guilty to the offence.

Following their guilty pleas, the court fined Fernandes and Harry $200,000 each, with an alternative of five months’ imprisonment.
