“Spanish Boy” Admits to Fatally Stabbing “Drill”

December 15 2025
A Venezuelan national, Nestor Luis Bolivar Martinez—popularly known as “Spanish Boy”—has admitted in the High Court in Demerara that he unlawfully caused the death of 21-year-old Sanjay “Drill” Hanoman.
The killing occurred during a 2020 confrontation at Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara.

Martinez, represented by attorney Ronald Bostwick, entered a guilty plea to manslaughter.
The prosecution, which includes attorney-at-law Christopher Belfield, is expected to present aggravating factors at the sentencing phase.
The fatal encounter unfolded just before midnight on October 26, 2020.
According to investigators, an eyewitness recalled seeing Martinez pull a knife and stab Hanoman once in the left thigh, causing him to collapse immediately.
Martinez reportedly fled on a bicycle while relatives rushed the injured man to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he died shortly.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that the stab wound severed key blood vessels, resulting in rapid blood loss and shock.
Several abrasions were also documented.
Police later contacted Martinez, who claimed in a cautioned statement that he and his wife had earlier been harassed by a group of men while walking home after drinking.
He said he returned alone with a knife, encountered Hanoman, and inflicted the wound after the young man allegedly struck his bicycle.
Martinez was charged in 2021 and later committed to stand trial after a magistrate found sufficient evidence at the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry.
During this week’s High Court hearing, the agreed facts were read and interpreted in Spanish. Martinez confirmed he understood before entering his plea.
The matter will return to court for sentencing, where the judge will weigh the circumstances of the killing along with submissions from both sides.
