Two men have pleaded guilty in the High Court in Demerara to the June 2021 murder of taxi driver Kenrick Trim, a 53-year-old resident of Belfield Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.

Seyon James, known as “Lil Alfey,” and Kenty Bacchus, called “Trini,” appeared before Chief Justice (ag) Navindra Singh, where they formally admitted to killing Trim in the course of a robbery.

The State’s case is being led by attorney Geneva Wills, supported by attorneys Christopher Belfield and Simran Gajraj. Bacchus is represented by Attorney-at-Law Audreanna Stephens, while Attorney Glendon Greenidge is representing James.

According to the agreed facts presented in court, on the morning of June 30, 2021, James and Bacchus entered Trim’s taxi, registration HC5311, outside Beacon Café on Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

Once inside the vehicle, the men allegedly overpowered Trim, choking him to subdue him. During the assault, Bacchus reportedly saw James stab the driver several times.

The pair later abandoned Trim’s body in bushes behind Pradoville, Ogle, East Coast Demerara.

Acting on intelligence, police searched a Georgetown location and reportedly found Trim’s cellphone in Bacchus’ possession.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Trim died from haemorrhage and shock caused by multiple stab wounds, compounded by compression injuries to the neck.

Bacchus later gave a recorded video and audio interview admitting his involvement and identified both himself and James on CCTV footage shown to him by investigators.

The case has now progressed to the sentencing stage, with further hearings scheduled for later this month.
