A serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has come forward with damming allegation of sexual exploitation and recruitment of female police recruits at the Guyana Police Force Academy for Deputy Commissioner of Police Fizal Karimbaksh.
The policeman stated that he played an active role in the process at the behest of Karimbaksh, the head of the Special Organised Crime unit.
In a video interview, the police sergeant recounted that the Head of SOCU would reportedly call and meet with him to arrange female recruits for him.
It was also during that interview that the policeman spoke of the power of the senior officer, and the alleged fear that many junior police ranks have for him.
According to the sergeant, many persons were transferred out of the police academy when they reportedly refused to facilitate the alleged unethical requests of Deputy Commissioner Fizal Karimbaksh, who seems to have a weakness for young, slim, Afrocentric police recruits.
The video interview, which is just over twenty minutes long, mentions the discomfort, horrors, and plight that both recruits and even staff at the college face, once the alleged requests of DC Karimbaksh are not met.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that a criminal investigation has been launched into the sexual exploitation of police recruits within the Guyana Police Force Academy.
The statement by the Ministry noted that anyone, irrespective of their rank and tenure, who is part of the system of exploiting the female recruits sexually will be dealt with.
BIG Smith News Watch made several attempts on Wednesday to contact the head of the Special Organised Crime Unit, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fizal Karimbaksh, but was unsuccessful.
This publication attempted to reach the officer through telephone number +592-675-0137. That number is controlled by Assistant Superintendent Pestanno Belle, the secretary to Karimbaksh. Mobile number +592-620-6740, which is used by Deputy Commissioner of Police Fizal Karimbaksh himself, was also unreachable.
The Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Oneidge Walrond, and Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken have been supplied with copies of the interview.
