Ranks of the Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch have launched an investigation following the discovery of more than 55 pounds of suspected cannabis during an intelligence-led operation in Angoys Avenue, New Amsterdam, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

According to police, ranks searched a two-storey wooden house where they encountered two men—ages 27 and 26—both masons residing in the Angoys Avenue area. A search of the living room revealed two large black plastic bags along with several parcels wrapped in transparent plastic. The packages were found to contain leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The suspected narcotics were taken to the Narcotics Branch and weighed in the presence of the two suspects, amounting to 55.75 pounds. The substance was processed and lodged as evidence.

Both men were taken into custody as investigations continue.
