Sophia Stabbing: DPP Calls for Inquest as Woman Surrenders to Police

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that an inquest be conducted into the fatal stabbing of 25-year-old Akeem Evans, which occurred on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at B Field, Sophia.
This was confirmed by Assistant Police Commissioner Simon McBean, Commander of Regional Police Division 4A, who also disclosed that Evans’ reputed wife, 23-year-old Jenoria “Heaven” Browne, surrendered to police at the Turkeyen Police Station the following day. She was reportedly unaccompanied by an attorney at the time of her surrender.
BIG Smith News Watch understands that Browne’s decision to accompany the injured Evans to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) before his death may have influenced the DPP’s recommendation for an inquest instead of a direct murder or manslaughter charge.
The couple, who lived in the bottom flat of a relative’s house in Sophia, were reportedly experiencing ongoing domestic issues.
On the day of the incident, a dispute between them escalated, resulting in Evans being stabbed once in the chest.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police later reported that Browne fled the medical facility after Evans’ death.
Investigations are ongoing as preparations for the inquest proceed.
An inquest is a formal court hearing conducted by a coroner to investigate an unexplained, violent, or unnatural death. The purpose is to determine the facts of the death, specifically who the person was, when and where they died, and how they died, without assigning legal blame.
These hearings can also identify if a natural death was preventable and may lead to future preventative actions, but the inquest itself is a fact-finding process, not a trial.
