Cash Grants Will Not be Denied for Not Having a Bank Account – VP

November 6 2025
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has reaffirmed that every eligible Guyanese will receive upcoming government cash grants, regardless of whether they possess a bank account.
His assurance comes as the administration continues efforts to promote financial inclusion and modernize payment systems nationwide.
Speaking on the issue, Jagdeo stressed that while the government encourages citizens to open bank accounts for easier access to funds, the absence of one will not prevent anyone from benefiting.
Highlighting technology’s growing role, the Vice President noted that digital and mobile banking services now make it possible for residents in remote areas to conduct transactions without visiting a bank, noting that the government, is exploring the establishment of central terminals in sub-districts to support these services.
He explained that the administration’s broader goal is to ensure all Guyanese—especially those in remote and hinterland communities—are connected to the financial system.
Recalling previous challenges, Jagdeo referenced instances where physical disbursements created difficulties for residents.
Jagdeo encouraged citizens to use the period ahead to open accounts, noting that most local banks now allow online registration.
