Driver Flees Leaving Passenger Trapped and Unconscious After Crash

21-Y-O Elijah Quamina is now in critical condition after suffering severe injuries to his head and body a horrific late-night accident along the Chateau Margot Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Thursday.
The young man was trapped in the crashed vehicle, battered and bleeding, groaning in pain, on the roadway while the driver of the car reportedly fled into the darkness.
The collision occurred at around 23:00 hrs when motor car #PAK 9356, reportedly speeding west, slammed violently into the rear right side of motor lorry #GTT 4960, driven by 31-year-old Randy Persaud of Kitty, Georgetown.
The impact ripped through the car’s front section, leaving twisted metal and shattered glass strewn across the roadway.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as “gruesome,” with Quamina bloodied and trapped before being pulled from the wreck.
Emergency responders rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he remains under urgent medical care.
The driver of the car, believed to have lost control moments before the crash, abandoned the mangled vehicle and fled on foot, leaving his injured passenger behind.
Police have since launched a manhunt to locate the fugitive driver.
Ranks who responded to the accident said the violent crash left both vehicles extensively damaged, with pieces of debris scattered across the southern carriageway.
