Charlotte Street Murder-Suicide, Couple Had History of Domestic Violence

A murder-suicide on Charlotte Street, Georgetown, Tuesday afternoon left a woman dead, her husband fatally wounded, and their 10-year-old son fighting for his life.

Disturbing videos circulating online captured the aftermath of the tragedy. Thirty-six-year-old Teekadai Atiya Solomon was seen lying motionless on the roadway with a gunshot wound to her head.

Her arm, bandaged and appearing broken, suggested she had been injured before Tuesday’s deadly confrontation.

Moments later, shocked bystanders discovered the couple’s young son sprawled on the concrete inside the yard, bloodied and crying in pain.

Barely able to move, the child told those who rushed to his aid that he had been shot in the stomach. When asked who shot him, he said: “meh father, he dead.”

On the opposite side of the property, the alleged shooter, 36-year-old Alroy Solomon, was found lifeless in a pool of blood, a gun lying inches away from his head.

Persons believe he turned the weapon on himself after shooting his wife and child.

The boy was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for emergency treatment. His current condition remains unknown.

Relatives and neighbors said the couple had a history of domestic problems. Atiya, who worked with ExxonMobil Guyana, had recently moved into the Charlotte Street property after her home was destroyed by fire—a blaze allegedly linked to Alroy. She had filed for divorce just months earlier.

According to Coel Marks, the brother of the property owner, police had investigated at least two shooting incidents at the residence within the last three months.

He said Alroy frequently visited and had a reputation for violent behavior, though Atiya reportedly downplayed concerns raised by neighbors about his aggression.
