Solomon calls on Lindeners to deliver another decisive blow to PPP come Sept 1

August 11, 2025

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Candidate, Sharma Raheem Solomon, on Sunday August 10, 2025, launched a scathing assault on the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), accusing it of delivering “death and destruction” to one of Guyana’s most resource-rich communities, while failing to bring tangible benefits from the nation’s latest economic boom.

Addressing a sizeable crowd in Linden just days after the PPP/C held its own rally in the town, the former Region 10 Chairman charged that the PPP/C’s “clown show” was nothing more than “lights and cameras” designed to distract residents from a record of broken promises.

He was of firm conviction, five years after Guyana’s oil-driven economic revolution began, Linden, the region that has historically delivered decisive electoral blows to the governing party, remains mired in neglect.

“We have never before seen the amount of wealth that we have today,” Solomon told supporters, “but each and every one of us can attest that we cannot see that transformation in our lives.”

Justice for Victims
In one of the rally’s more poignant statements, Solomon vowed that an APNU government would bring to justice those responsible for the deaths of Linden residents, and that of including 13-year-old Adriana Younge.

“We will jail those who have perpetrated those wicked acts against our brothers and sisters,” he declared, pointing to unresolved killings of residents of Christianburg and Bamia as examples of a justice system that has failed the community.

The PPP/C, he charged, “only believe that you deserve death and destruction…that is what they got for you.”

Additionally, he also used the occasion to dismiss recent government projects as recycled ideas from previous APNU-led administrations. He cited as examples, the synthetic track, the proposed Wismar Bridge, and the Linden to Soesdyke highway as coalition concepts or foreign initiatives, insisting that in five years the PPP/C has brought “absolutely nothing” of substance to Linden.

“Don’t tell me about the synthetic track. Don’t tell me about the Wismar Bridge, that’s our concept. What can you tell me the PPP has brought you? Absolutely nothing,” he insisted.

Solomon also cited the controversial Bamia Primary School project as another example of alleged waste and mismanagement, claiming government overspending has lined the pockets of “family, friends, and favourites.”

To this end, he urged supporters “vote early” to prevent electoral malpractice, alleging that the PPP/C intends to “steal your vote” and urged residents to safeguard the ballots after casting them.

Solomon was adamant, Linden must once again be the “common denominator” in the PPP/C’s electoral defeat. “From the first of September, we will give them that defeat they deserve. And from the second, we will begin delivering justice.”
