July 1, 2025: The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that the driver of motor car #PMM 3778, Narayan Sikandar, has succumbed to his injuries following a three-vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday morning on the Rupert Craig Highway, near the University of Guyana Access Road, East Coast Demerara.

Sikandar died at approximately 08:15 hrs while undergoing emergency surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). His body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The incident, initially classified as a serious accident, has now been upgraded to a fatal accident as investigations continue.

The collision, which occurred around 09:00 hrs, involved:

  • Hire car #HD 3223, owned and driven by Neil Lewis, 63, of Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice (with two male passengers);

  • Motor car #PAK 9877, owned and driven by Kamel Daniels;

  • Motor car #PMM 3778, driven by the now-deceased Narayan Sikandar.

According to police reports, motor car #PAK 9877 was heading east along the northern lane of the highway at a high rate of speed. Upon reaching the vicinity of the UG Access Road, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to cross the concrete median into the western-bound lane. It collided with the right side of Sikandar’s car (#PMM 3778), which in turn struck the right front of the hire car (#HD 3223).

All three vehicles sustained extensive damage. Sikandar and the other occupants of the vehicles sustained various injuries and were transported to GPHC by public-spirited citizens.

Sikandar was admitted in serious condition with a fractured arm, while the other drivers and passengers were treated for chest pains and facial lacerations. Their conditions have since been reported as stable.

The Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force continues to investigate the incident.
