Authorities in Regional Division #6 have launched an investigation following the disappearance of two men after a boating accident on the Corentyne River.

According to a police report, the incident was reported around 12:00 hrs on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, by 48-year-old fisherman Mohindranauth Parmanand, also known as “Mohin,” of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice. According to Parmanand, his 17-year-old son, Vishaul Parmanand, and 32-year-old Daniel Inshanali, also known as “Fine Man,” of Edward Village, West Coast Berbice, went missing at sea after departing Crabwood Creek in a newly purchased vessel.

Parmanand told police that on Monday, April 7, he had traveled to Crabwood Creek to buy a new boat and engine. After installing the engine, his son and Inshanali asked to use the boat for a trip to Rosignol. The pair set out by sea around 11:00 hrs but failed to arrive at their destination by the expected time of 17:00 hrs. Efforts by Parmanand to reach his son via cellphone were unsuccessful.

The following morning, Parmanand received a report that the vessel was seen drifting near Tain Koker, Corentyne, with the engine still mounted but no sign of the occupants.

Police responded to the scene and searched along the shoreline but were unable to locate the missing men. Due to the incoming tide, officers were also unable to retrieve the drifting boat, which continued to move further offshore. Recovery efforts are ongoing.

It was revealed that neither Vishaul nor Inshanali held a captain’s license.

The investigation remains active.
