February 6, 2025 – Grade Six teachers from 42 hinterland schools participated in an
interactive online Science methodology session yesterday, marking the commencement of a
series of targeted virtual training sessions.

These sessions are designed for educators whose students faced challenges in the Grade
Six Mock Assessments 1 and 2 across hinterland regions.

A comprehensive analysis of the assessment results identified key topic areas where students performed poorly,
guiding the focus of these interventions.

The diagnosis of student performance from Mock Assessment 1 provided initial insights, which were further refined after Mock Assessment 2 to ensure that the most critical learning gaps were addressed The Science session was facilitated by the Deputy Chief Education Officer (DCEO) – Amerindian and Hinterland Education Development (AHED), Mr. Marti DeSouza, who brings firsthand experience as a former Science teacher in the hinterland. In addition to Science, online academic support is being provided in Mathematics, English, and Social
Studies by Ministry of Education officers.

This support includes virtual sessions, recorded demonstrations of past Mathematics
paper solutions, and PowerPoint presentations to reinforce key concepts.

Currently, over 100 schools in Regions 1, 7, 8, and 9 are connected to the internet,
enabling greater access to these valuable educational resources.

The initiative reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to bridging learning gaps and enhancing the quality
of education in hinterland communities.
